And actually neither am I. I feel nervous for them about any potential glitches and I've been praying. (Does that sound silly? I'm serious - I know what this is like and I want them to succeed and enjoy it!)
Which Friday Night Lights character are you? I got Tyra. I did not like that answer. But it's better than being her sister.

A letter from a working mom to a stay at home mom and vice-versa: so sweet. Really, I think it reflects how most of us moms actually feel about the woman on the other side of the working fence from us.
Also, you know those moments when you realize something and you're like, "That's the best idea every!" but then you feel like an idiot because really it's a very simple discovery? Examples from my life:
- realizing that I could stop buying apple baby food for $.50 a small container and just buy a great big jar of applesauce for $1.50
- figuring out that I could just keep fresh lemons on hand and then have better tasting, fresh-squeezed lemon juice instead of buying the bottled stuff
Well, I had another one of those moments. I get the kids little Crayola washable paint sets and usually they'd use all the paint up in one sitting. It's cheap, and it does clean up well, but I still hated how wasteful it seemed. I even got to a point where I'd cut the cups into groupings to each kid would only get two at a time, which made the paint last a wee bit longer. But it still wasn't great.
But then one day I saw Crayola jars of washable paint; they were still cheap and so I brought them home.
At home I put little bits of the paint on a plastic, reusable plate and let the kids go to town.
It might sound silly, but I really love that I'm able to control how much they use (so there's not oceans of brown paint on the table) and that I'm not pitching paper plates over and over and over again.
And to wrap things up, Hallie totally took my 7QT song for her Five Fave post so if you've got anything you love right now let me know. Otherwise you will all just be getting more Pompeii.

DeleteYay! I reallyyyyy like that song, and now I know the name and band. Which is usually something I don't know. I'm all like, "I love that one song. You know, that goes, "Nanan, la la la . ." like that?'"
ReplyDeleteThe letters are sweet, but as a working mother, I have to say 'meh.' The letter to the SAHM is true enough, but the letter to the working mom seems to assume that she is oh so fulfilled by her fascinating career and that she made a carefully planned choice to have a job. Given that the letter was composed by a medical doctor, I understand her tone. However, most of us don't have fascinating careers or a choice about working, but feel ripped in half by the demands placed on us by work and home, and would give our eye teeth to be home with our kids.

ReplyDeleteSuddenly realizing little ways to beat the system (also known as saving money...in a moral way, of course) is one of my favorite pastimes. Hehe. Your boys like they're having too much fun with that paint! Have you tried those Pinterest recipes for homemade washable paint? I think they're something like cornstarch, water, and food coloring!
