A Miracle for Samantha

Because I created the Sheenazing Awards to bring together and celebrate the Catholic blogosphere and to raise awareness of Venerable Fulton Sheen and his cause for canonization* it seems providential that in the last hours of the voting I received the following email from a local Catholic school teacher:

My sixth grade class ... have developed a true devotion to [Sheen] -they love him! We have included the prayer for his canonization to our daily prayers since August. ... So we thought that we have a special partnership with him -- we pray for him, he prays for us. We have studied his first alleged miracle, and the kids are convinced that Rome will find this to be a valid miracle and FJS will be called blessed soon. My students have often discussed his need for a second miracle, and have spent some time discussing and guessing what that miracle would be.

On Tuesday [Jan 21], one of my sixth grade students [Samantha] was diagnosed with stage 4 Ewings Sarcoma [bone cancer]. The cancer is extremely aggressive, and has metastasized all over her body - arms, legs, pelvis, spine, chest, everywhere. This student, in particular, has a special love for Fulton. ... On the day of her diagnosis when I spoke with her mother, she asked that we pray in particular through the intercession of Fulton J. Sheen.

Her teacher goes on to say that many people are already praying for a miracle for Samantha and that they are asking Venerable Sheen to pray with them.

Please, before you scroll down to look at the winners for the Sheenazing Awards, please pray the following prayer:

Eternal Father, You alone grant us every blessing in Heaven and on earth, through the redemptive mission of Your Divine Son, Jesus Christ, and by the working of the Holy Spirit.
If it be according to Your Will, glorify Your servant, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, by granting the favor I now request through his prayerful intercession:
the complete healing of Samantha from cancer and the return of her health.
I make this prayer confidently through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
 Amen

Thank you. +JMJ+

  1. Dealing with my husband's cancer is hard enough, I can't imagine what it would be like if it were my little girl. Thank you for sharing this. We will add Samantha to our prayer list and ask FS for his intercession.

  3. My brother had Ewing's sarcoma, so that horrible cancer holds a particular place in my heart. He didn't get the (earthly, bodily) miracle we all prayed for, but I will hold this little girl in prayer - thank you for sharing her story.
