1 - Jennifer's wonderful summary of wearing a veil at Mass. It's insightful and funny and my favorite part: It was at that moment that I realized that this exercise in head covering brought with it an important, and surprisingly difficult, opportunity for spiritual growth: to presume other people’s charity.
Also, I just may need to get me one of those infinity scarf veils. For reals, people, that thing is awesome.
2 - Rebecca Frech has a beautiful post about silence at Mass over at Ignitum Today. I've never attended a Traditional Latin Mass but this post has me thinking that it may just be the balm my soul is longing for in this hectic, loud, overwhelming season of life.
3 - A funny story from the home: Dora the Explorer is pretty much banned from my home because I find it annoying. Today, though, I told my daughter she could watch it. L ran to Ben exclaiming, "Mom said we can watch Dora!" Ben, in total shock and awe said, "Mom likes Dora now?" He then came to the kitchen to hear from the source that I really, truly was going to let them watch the show while I was home.
4 - The lovely Marie Miller. Don't know Marie? Well, she's a young Catholic musician - beautiful, funny, talented. She has performed at the past two Behold Conferences and will be returning in 2014. She has a new single and I just saw the new video that goes with it. Let me tell you, if you have a daughter, try to get her into Marie Miller's music. Marie is the kind of woman you want your girl looking up to as a role model. Seriously. Watch the video - her dress goes down to her knees!
Dora is banned in our house too! Can't. Stand. It.

ReplyDeleteI don't let my kids watch Dora, either. I made the terrible mistake of allowing them to watch Caillou, though. They both got addicted and extra whiny simultaneously. They "gave Caillou up" for Lent this year. I may or may not have made that decision for them. They asked for it the first few days, but he seems to be forgotten. Thank goodness!!

DeleteI've found that the earlier Caillou episodes have a lot more whining than the latter ones. We watch Caillou but I prefer Kipper the Dog, My Little Ponies, The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That, and Thomas. Even though Thomas is a know it all.
Deletelaughing here--now, I find cat in the annoying and forbid that with a passion everything about that character is weird to me, I don't understand Kipper and we don't watch Thomas or ponies either--yet we love dora here and caillou. We must be your opposites lol. But since I have older kids I can say that everything geared for kids slightly older is horrendous! One day you will be ohh I long for the days when the worst show I could think of is Dora. TV for older kids is foul puke.

ReplyDeleteRose was the one who heard about Marie first so I give all credit to her. But it is really neat to see her grow in popularity after having worked with her. Marie is so sweet and down to earth.
DeleteGrandpa Gesterling hates Dora, so we like to rub it in when he's around. Have you read any of the Dora books? Pretty sure they're worst than the show. My parents have a large compilation book and the stories have no plot and just make up things as they go. Ugh
