7 quick takes

This quick takes is the pick your song edition:

1 - I'd probably go with this one if I were you.  This is my ultimate "mellow day" song.  It also gives me an incredibly strong desire to bake an apple pie.  So you may need to watch out for that one.

2 - Confession:  I really do love this song and I have for years.  My younger brother went through a phase where he loooooved Dave Brubeck almost ten years ago, which is how I even know who in the heck he is.  So maybe me liking this song is a little bit nerdy, but since several people accused me of being a hipster in my lipstick post I'll claim that it makes me incredibly cool.  ;)

3 - Are you in the mood for pop?  Well then, you're welcome.  L thinks you have good taste.

4 - So Pinterest and I had a good week:
Rice Krispie treat pumpkins and colored dough for fall leaves = Never would have thought of it on my own.

Yarn wreath with felt flowers in Halloween colors = Never would have thought I could do it had I not seen step by step instructions.
5 - Homeschooling and I have been doing well, too.  Twenty minutes two days a week.  We sing a song, practice letters, learn about a saint, maybe do something crafty, say some prayers, the kids practice our address, phone numbers, and full names.  Last week we were on 'F'.and we did this:
This week we're on 'G' (big duh, I know) and so we took a little field trip to the parish I grew up in, St. Mary of Lourdes, and visited the grotto.  We stopped in the church to say "Hello" to Jesus, said a 'Hail Mary' in the grotto, and then the kids played on the slide.  It was a good day.

6 - Congratulations to Cynthia for achieving one of my goals in life:  being linked to in one of Grace's Clickable posts!  It was well worth it, old roomie of mine!

7 - Brandon Vogt has a great video of him interviewing Msgr. Soseman, a priest for the Diocese of Peoria who is working in Rome on the Sheen cause.  Go check it out if you're interested in what's going on with Venerable Sheen's beatification process.

  1. I love all the Pinterest stuff! I was going to try my hand at those pumpkin crispy treats for my son's first birthday but I'm just doing the stick a pretzel stick in a Reese's cup for a broomstick instead...infinitely easier! :) Love the song choices, too!

  2. I love the cookies and pumpkins! I think Maggie and I are going to do some leaf rubbings today because she is all about the crayons!

I have a question, at what age did you start to do preschool with them? Maggie will be two in December and I am thinking of starting with her in the new year. She does go to pre-school twice a week for two hours, but I want to do some Catholic stuff with her at home.

Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Sarah! Lydia, who is 4, is who I really focus on for the homeschool so I can prepare her for kindergarten next year. Bennet, who is 3, also does it with us but I will focus more on him next year. I do work on memorization stuff with both of them - prayers, address, saints, identifying letters, numbers, colors, shapes. Lydia mastered a lot of that stuff a long time ago and so I'm working more on penmanship, sounding out words, and sight reading with her. Bennet colors pictures while we do that!

For faith formation I've really liked using Catholic Icing's book and I like this book a lot, too: http://www.amazon.com/Alphabet-Catholic-Saints-Brenda-Nippert/dp/0978703510

  3. what!? so jealous of all that Pinterest success. I'm going to post one of my typical fails later on .... all hail to YOU.

and I'm dying over the clickable post ... I hope you are being as facetious as can be!!!!!

Julia just asked me what the button to my right says "we do it every night" and now she is repeating.

    lovely.

    1. Heck no I'm not being facetious! Every time you have a Clickable I fill with hope and try to remember if I've actually written anything amusing ever. By the time I finish the post I feel like I did every time my crush Jake spoke to me in high school. (Just to clarify he never asked me out.)

Well, it's the charting that we're doing. :)

  4. I chose the first song since I made a peach pie yesterday-I figured I was safe from the apple pie desires.

Good song. And now I want to go eat a piece of my pie....

I was featured on Jen's Favorite Links once (conversion diary) and I thought I was going to die of happiness. Grace is a very close second-no offense Grace.

    1. Jen is to Lisa Hendey what Justin Bieber is to Justin Timberlake. And I mean that in a GREAT way! And then Grace is like... I don't know... Mumford and Sons.

So all this to say: I understand, Kaitlin, I understand.

  5. Girrrrrl, those Pinterest creations are a tad bit impressive (as in a lot bit impressive). Love that pumpkin popcorn ball!

    Hope you are well!

    1. The Pinterest creations were all super duper easy. I don't convert old entertainment centers into play kitchens - I shaped rice krispie treats into balls after spraying my hands with Pam.

      But I accept your compliment!

  6. Totally not related to 7 Quick Tastes but I noticed that you have 'skinny taste' over in your 'Blogs I like' list. I also recommend http://pointlessmeals.blogspot.com/ A bunch of ladies I work with are on WW and they use both skinnytaste and pointlessmeals - Hope this helps!

  7. Ok I am the worst at crafts and I can't do pinterest because it makes me feel inferior. However, those pumpkin krispie treat things seem intriguing. What did you use for the stem?

    1. The stem is a tootsie roll cut in half. When you make them use a little more cereal than usual or else they won't hold their shape. Also, the actual pinned recipe calls for pumpkin marshmallows but I used regular $.99 store brand ones and food coloring. And make sure you spray your hands with Pam when you make them!

My 4 yr old helped make them - she loved it!

  8. You actually made those things yourself???? You are a crafting genius. Genius I tell you!

    1. I promise you it is really, really easy. I am not a crafting genius, which is why I usually have to have my mom or my friend Katie (a true crafting genius) near to do the hard stuff. Or as my friend Kim said, "I knew that if it was too hard you'd get frustrated and not do it. So this is easy."

  9. Fun songs! My nine year old daughter and I agree that we would've enjoyed video #3 more if the singer were dressed more modestly. It would allow all the attention to fall on her music. Sure, she could be wearing less. But she could also be wearing more and let her beauty and femininity truly shine.

    1. Anon, I know! Actually, when I read your comment I thought of 2 things: 1) that study that showed that moms who talked to their girls about sexy clothes and modest dressing and celebrities had daughters who didn't want to dress sexy - so Good job you! And 2) It's one of the reasons I love Audrey Assad. She always looks so lovely and pretty and covered up!

  10. First song. My nearly two year old had me play it three or four times in a row. Wow! Great pinteresting (new word!?)! And can I say I LOVE wreaths but have no money or motivation to make them (I think the no motivation is due to the lack of money, but anyway!). I'd rather be home with my babies than have wreaths. Ok maybe some days I would rather a wreath...but not usually! ;)

    1. Suzette, we have no money, too! Okay, I did just get some income for a speaking gig but that wreath was cheap to make. $3 for the yarn and there was enough left over to make another winter-y wreath. 4 felt squares at $.23 each. A styrofoam wreath for $2.50-$4 (I can't remember the price!). All from Wal Mart. So I made that thing for about $8. Which is pretty cheap.
Oh! And I had to borrow my mom's glue gun. :)

    2. $8!!!! What?! Ok! I'm inspired! Payday is Thursday (womp, womp) but I can do a generic autumn wreath for sure! Yay I'm pumped!
