I see pictures of places like this on Pinterest and I think,
"Wow. That's so cute. We could do that in the next house we have. A cute reading nook. I love it."
And then I think,
"Reading nook my butt. It would just collect crap."
Or as my mom used to say to us,
"I can't have anything nice because of you kids!"
same here. everything we have is trashed by kids. or just plain taken over by kid stuff.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't collect crap about here, because I'm obsessive about clutter. But someone strip off their diaper and pee on it, guarantee. So for the rest of my life, we'd have this cute reading nook that reeked like a subway.

That is so funny (and yes so true.) However, I still am taking note of how cute that is because we are in the process of planning a house build - but it will still be a smallish house. My kids are so desperate for personal space that my oldest was reading in the empty tub with the curtain closed to get away from the little ones. They may like that book nook so well that the fact that it would be a bit of a mess wouldn't matter.

ReplyDeleteYour instincts are sound. A couple of years ago my husband found a cute painted wooden bench in a thrift shop. He wanted to put it under the window at the top of the stairs where there is room for a little bench and nothing else. I agreed we could buy it, but only if it didn't become a junk piling location. Don't ask what is on that bench today and whether anyone could actually sit on it.
