all quiet on the Engstrom front

Today we did some rearranging.

Ben's Thomas the Train bed had been moved from his room to L's.  They shared her room while Resa slept in Ben's room, surrounded by the boys' dressers.  The nursery, on the first floor, was the play room / JF's bedroom.  The rest of the family slept upstairs and I'd often lay in bed thinking of how Travis would get JF from his room if someone ever broke into the house.  Because the other kids would be hidden in a closet, protected by me with the shotgun, on the phone with 911.  Of course.

But now the boys are sharing Ben's room and the girls are sharing L's room and the nursery is just the playroom.  It's lovely.  Naptime was a little tricky for JF, and bedtime wasn't as smooth as usual, but now everyone is sleeping.  Peacefully.  Soundly.  And not an intruder in sight.

I'll post pictures of the rooms later.

And that's all I have to say.

So, if you want, you can go read my little "Meet a Reader" interview that I did with the lovely Nancy at The Reading Catholic.

  1. Glad I'm not the only mom who imagines crazy scenarios - mine are usually: if there's a fire in the hallway between us and the kids', how do I get the ladder to their room...sadly, a closet and a shotgun aren't really gonna help me in that scenario

  2. Kayla just signed a lease for an apartment and is moving out. So that means we are getting ready to do a great big shuffle in our house. I was awake in bed last night wondering how Sophia would ever sleep in a room all by herself since she's always shared one. Then I wondered how I would ever know when to worry about Kayla - if she ever went missing or needed help or how I'd know if she was safe and how often I should expect her to call. Anyway, I didn't get much sleep last night.

Glad to know everyone was peaceful at your house.

  3. I love rearranging furniture! That's all I really have to say. And also, I LOVED your answers to "Meet a Reader." You can really hear your voice so well there. Thank you for doing it.
