cue Handel's "Messiah"

JF did well on the cookie swallow!

At the last minute a friend offered to babysit L and Ben so I could be at the test and speak with the feeding therapist.  I also got to talk to the nurse practitioner, the doctor and JF's nurse.  My little boy is doing really well and I'm so proud of him!

They'll be starting him on bottles right away.

Please pray that he will continue to do well with bottle feedings.  Once he is taking 8 full bottles a day he will be able to come home.  That's our next goal.

Funny incident of note:  JF is now in size 2 diapers because he weighs 11lbs 8oz.  His nurse had to go up to the pediatrics floor to get diapers big enough to fit him because the NICU doesn't stock diapers bigger than size 1.  Come on, that's funny.

  1. THANK YOU, GOD!! I was praying so hard about this cookie swallow, Bonnie. Thank you, thank you, thank you, God.

Here's hoping that he's turned the corner here and that he's able to come all the way to completely healthy and a normal life.

*hugs* and many prayers of thanksgiving!

  8. I just left a VERY exuberant comment on your facebook page so i won't repeat it again (but, man, am I excited about htis news!!!). And, yes, that is funny about the diapers! haha! I just love those big fat baby boys!! I had a bunch of newborn size diapers ready for Abraham and then couldn't use hardly any of them! Rejoicing with you about James' progress! I can't wait to tell the girls - they have been so concerned and praying so much.

  15. That is SO awesome!!!

James is going to pass up Brennan in weight...Brennan only weighs maybe 16 lbs. now. The NICU better stock up...with all the eating James is going to do, they're going to need a lot of diapers. :)

  19. Hi Bonnie,

I haven't commented before but I have been following your story and I just want to say how courageous you and your family are. I'm praying for you all!

The diaper story is funny. My older sister aspirated on meconium when my mom was in labor, and was given an Apgar score of 2. She had to spend a couple of weeks in the NICU, even though she was over nine and a half pounds! All the nurses kept asking what "that huge baby" was doing in the NICU.

The doctors were sure that my sister would be blind, be unable to walk on her own, and suffer seizures. What difficulties she actually did have were VERY minor compared to what the doctors foretold. She's a healthy young woman with a child of her own now!

    God Bless.

LOL the diaper story. It is good to make things a little tougher...maybe he can come home sooner!

  23. Hurrah! I'm SO excited for you. Eating real food from a bottle is a HUGE step in the life of a NICU baby.

The size 2 diaper problem is super funny. Little James is now triple the weight of some of his baby roommates in the NICU now.
