I encourage you to NOT go see The Golden Compass. Why? Because the movie is based on a book (the first of a trilogy) that was written to be the "anti-Narnia" books. Phillip Pullman, the author, is an atheist and is hoping his triology, His Dark Materials, will inspire kids everywhere to doubt the existence of God.
It looks like a wonderful movie, but I just can't give money to a man who dislikes my beloved C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien so.
However, I do encourage you to see the movie Bella. Great acting, wonderful script, vibrant portrayal of a loving hispanic family, message of love being the greatest. A delightful, character driven, independant movie.
A couple of people have commented to me in person about my strong reaction (over-reaction) to this movie. We need to think for ourselves. It's just a film. Et cetera.
ReplyDeleteI do value those views and I have never been one for banned books myself. However, in my eyes, it's all about putting your money where your mouth is. I won't be entertained by songs or movies that glorify sex, drugs and profane language nor will I give money to a man who wants to kill God in the minds of children. Especially if his tool is clever, well-written literature.
Perhaps my language is too strong but killing God is precisely what Pullman does in his trilogy.
